Comedy gives liberty to be comically creative: Pandiraj
The director has earlier won the National award for his Tamil comedy film 'Pasanga'.

Chennai: Wonder why National award winning Tamil director Pandiraj always prefers making films with good amount of comedy? He says as a filmmaker, this genre gives him the liberty to address varied topics by being comically creative.

"I choose to make comically creative films because it gives me the freedom to address even the most sensitive issues with a dash of humour as I believe audiences take out time amidst their problems in life to spend few hours hoping to be entertained," Pandiraj told IANS.

"If you are going to show them a film as depressing as their own lives, they will hate it for sure. It is very important to learn how to blend humour into the narrative to make an entertaining film," he added.

While his National award-winning Tamil comedy 'Pasanga' was about the waywardness of young school-going children, his other notable Tamil romantic-comedy 'Marina', introduced us to the lives of people who earn a livelihood working at Marina beach in Chennai.

Both the films were highly successful at the box-office. He said his forthcoming Tamil romantic-comedy 'Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga', which he has also produced, will follow the same formula.

"This time I have attempted to harp on the importance of parents. Most of us don't like to be advised by our parents, but only when we become parents, we know the pain and responsibility of that position. I have mixed comedy and drama appropriately to highlight the role of parents in our lives," he added.

The film features Vimal, Sivakarthikeyan, Regina Cassandra, Bindhu Madhavi and Parota Suri in lead roles.

Why does he prefer working with the same cast? "I'm working with Vimal and Siva for the second time. I was looking for a pair that will be mischievous yet melodramatic when needed. Both of them fit the bill and most importantly there are scenes in the film that I doubt certain actors would do and, therefore, I had to choose them eventually," said Pandiraj.

The film, which was shot in places such as Trichy and Chennai, will be hitting the screens on March 29. It has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
