BANGALORE: With all the hype surrounding the historic Formula One Indian Grand Prix that got all the eyeball hits and TRP ratings, the much-awaited Coffee Day Rally promises to be a humdinger with the drivers and crew eager to show their skills after a mid-calendar break as the Speed Indian National Rally Championship 2011 resumes at Chikmagalur for the 5th round from Friday.The first-ever Orissa Rally and the season-ending Rally de Bengal slated on back-to-back Sundays in December before Christmas will be the last two rounds.Speed demon and leading contender Gaurav Gill will be looking to consolidate his position at the top along with ever-dependable Musa Sherif as co-driver to lead the challenge of Team MRF.Organised by Motor Sports Club of Chikmagalur, the fifth of the seven-round Speed Indian National Rally Championship will be held under the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI) and is promoted by IMG Sports and Pro-Sports Promotion (PSP).The competition is wide open as the Nationals reach the last stretch after the first four rounds at Nashik, Chennai, Coimbatore and Bangalore proved competitive.After the Coffee Day Rally, the cream of the rally talent will, for the first time, witness a National-level rally event at Orissa before the season ends at Durgapur, near Kolkata on December 18.Gaurav Gill with co-driver Musa Sherif with 111 points will be the stars to watch as they lead the overall table standings while it was young Karna Kadur, who is the cynosure of all eyes, as he continues the fight in the 2000cc N category along with codriver Somonita Ghosh, the only lady driver in 2000N class.Rahul Kantharaj and Vivek Bhat, who pipped them in K-1000 lead the points tally after five rounds. Anirudha Rangnekar and Karan AM lead the drivers ratings in 1600cc and 1400cc respectively.
