HYDERABAD: A student of city-based Nalsar university of law, Suhasini Sen, has been selected for the prestigious Gates Cambridge Scholarship for 2012.The Gates Cambridge Scholarship was instituted in 2000 with the munificence of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Nalsar student has bagged the prestigious scholarship in a stiff global competition. Fifty outstanding individuals were selected for the scholarship from 23 countries, of whom only three are from India. Of the three Indians, Sen is the only law student to get this prestigious scholarship.The scholars have been selected on the basis of their intellectual ability, leadership capacity, academic profile and commitment to improving the lives of others. Seven of the new scholars are from Canada, six from Australia, five from Germany, four from the United States of America, three each from India, Romania and Ireland, and two each are from Kenya, Ghana and China.Prof. Robert Lethbridge, Provost of the Gates Cambridge Trust, said, “We are delighted to have awarded Gates Cambridge Scholarships to 50 outstanding individuals from over 20 countries in the international selection round. The scholars come from diverse backgrounds and will pursue a wide range of subjects at Cambridge.”Sen will pursue masters course in law with focus on issues and tensions between public security and personal liberties, a press release from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (Nalsar) said.
