THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kovalam Police here on Monday arrested a 27-year-old man suspected to be a member of a racket which abducts children and sexually exploits them. The accused was identified as Baiju, 27, of Venniyoor near Kovalam. The police said that Baiju was arrested following a complaint filed by the parents of a 12-year-old boy. They alleged that the boy, who also hailed from Venniyoor, complained of Baiju trying to abduct and sexually abuse him the other day. Baiju admitted to the police of committing the crime. He had been working as the driver of a prominent Malayalam filmmaker. He was arrested by a team of police led by Vizhinjam Circle Inspector J Dinil. The police are also on the lookout for a middle-aged man, who was also associated with Baiju. However, they did not reveal his name. The police also said that they suspected that a racket of paedophiles was thriving in the area following the rise in complaints from parents of children in and around Venniyoor. Baiju was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
