Power cuts are expected in several areas of Chennai today, May 17, due to maintenance work and the erection of a power transformer. According to Times Now, the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced a power cut in the Thandurai, Pattabiram, and Sekkadu regions on Friday from 9 am to 12 pm. According to reports, the power supply will be restored by noon if the work is completed on schedule.
Reports state that TANGEDCO is going to replace the AB switch at the Pattabiram substation and erect a new power transformer. Recently, there were power cuts in the neighbourhood due to the fires in two power transformers; one of the transformers was replaced.
On Friday until 12 pm, there will be a power cut in areas such as – Pattabiram, Sekkadu, Gopalapuram East & West, Thandurai, Iyyappan Nagar, South Bazar, Vallalar Nagar, Venkatapuram, Mullai Nagar, Anna Nagar, Thendral Nagar, C.T.H. Road, Charles Nagar, Drivers Colony, Modern City, Kamarajapuram, Sasthri Nagar, I.A.F. Road, and all other surrounding areas.
On the other hand, TANGEDCO reported an increase in the number of customers using online bill payment options. According to a report published by The New India Express, the number of customers who chose to make payments online increased from 57.25 lakh in April 2023 to 70.20 lakh in April 2024. During the same period, the online bill collections grew from Rs 1,550 crore to Rs 2,010 crore.
Major cities like Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, and Madurai have seen a significant increase in the number of people choosing to pay their bills online.
