HYDERABAD: After they sank their alleged differences at a meeting in Delhi, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana are now singing the unity song and urging all leaders to work in tandem for the party’s victory in the forthcoming byelections. On Saturday the chief minister and the PCC chief met party leaders  from the poll-going 18 Assembly constituencies spread across 12 districts. They also held separate discussions with some senior leaders.Chiranjeevi could not make it to the review meeting held pertaining to Tirupati while senior leaders like Rayapati Samabsiva Rao and Kavuri Sambasiva Rao stayed away. Minister DL Ravindra Reddy too was absent. But deputy chief minister Damodar Rajanarasimha attended. It was decided at the meeting that the government would provide all possible help to the poor by sanctioning Deepam gas connections and Indiramma houses so that the party could bank mainly on the welfare plank to win the bypolls. At the same time, the party would not stray from targeting YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. The understanding is that Congress leaders would not take the name of YS Rajasekhara Reddy but, at the same time, haul Jagan over the coals. Welfare schemes of the government and Jagan’s corruption will be the twin planks of the Congress. The Congress leaders were advised to focus on Christian votes, as Jagan is believed to be enjoying their support. The chief minister and PCC chief will conduct similar review meetings in the coming days before the election notification is issued. The party appointed senior ministers to take charge of electioneering. For each constituency eight to ten seniors will be appointed as coordination committee leaders. These committees will start study work from April 10 and submit their reports in 10 days. The leaders are to create awareness among voters about welfare and developmental schemes launched and implemented by the Congress government.A senior Congress leader and MP, JD Seelam, alleged that some leaders were working as covert operators.Rayapati, who stayed away from the meeting, said in Guntur that some senior should be appointed as Guntur district incharge for the byelections. He made it clear that he would not campaign for the party.Ministers DK Aruna and Uttam Kumar Reddy were appointed as in-charges for Kadapa and Macherla constituencies respectively. For the other  constituencies, the appointments will be made soon.
