PUDUCHERRY: The opposition AIADMK on Monday urged the Centre to place the administration under the charge of the Ministry of Home for speedy relief and rescue work after cyclone Thane devasted Puducherry, as the AINRC government had failed to ‘deliver’ even after four days .Briefing newsmen at a press conference, secretary of the local unit MLA A Anbazhagan, said  that water and power supply was yet to be restored in most areas and the worst-hit were the rural areas. People were coming out on the streets to show their ire due to their continuous suffering. He said the Centre should intervene and deploy the National Disaster Response Force (c) to address rescue and relief measures. He said damage to the coastal areas had not been enumerated and no reports on the relief undertaken had been finalised. The total damage to huts, fishing boats, crops, etc, had not been assessed. Rough estimates of number of huts damaged were at over 40,000.The AIADMK leader criticised Chief minister N Rangasamy for announcing a flat relief of Rs 2,000 per family when the quantum of relief should be more. He urged the government to adopt the guidelines for relief under the Calamity Relief Fund and provide a relief Rs 12,000 instead. He also charged the Centre with remaining a mute spectator at this time of crisis. The MLA demanded that the CM convene a  meeting of the MLAs to discuss the damage caused by cyclone and the relief measures to be provided.
