BANGALORE: Home Minister R Ashok on Saturday said that there is a proposal to install CCTVs throughout the city and link the video footage to one centralised unit to enable the police to act in case of any contingency. “We intend to seek funds from the Centre for this security-related issue as the Union home ministry has earmarked Rs. 500 crore for tightening security apparatus in states,”  he told reporters. He also said that along with Bangalore, other cities, district headquarters and sensitive towns will also be covered in phases. Ashok said he is not yet aware of the quantum of funds available to the state for this purpose as it is yet to be worked out in consultations with the top police officers. He said that it was decided in the review meeting with the senior police officers to direct MNCs carry out security drill in order to sensitise their personnel and ensure better coordination with the police in case of emergency. “Scientific and defence installations besides dams and reservoirs as well as housing complexes of various central and state government employees have been given inconspicuous security. I am confident that we are well equipped and prepared to meet any crisis,” he added. He also said that as  part of Intelligent Transport System, city buses fitted with GPS systems will be launched as part of a pilot project in Mysore on September 21. This will enable the people to know details of the bus location and likely time of arrival. “The same project will be extended to the city shortly,” he said.  On bomb blasts at the KSCA stadium, Ashok said police have been able to find out the culprits and forwarded the information to the Centre.
