KOCHI: A petition was filed on Wednesday before the Kerala High Court seeking a CBI probe into the criminal misappropriation of money and illegal amassing of wealth in the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA).The petitioners, K B Vijayakrishnan of Eranhipalam and M M Niaz Ahammed of Kollam, contended that the investigation and cases against the KCA and its secretary were being buried halfway through. “There is massive corruption in all the  activities of the KCA, such as swindling of public wealth amounting to crores of rupees. The managing committee has manipulated the accounts and records of the KCA. There are four Vigilance cases and a criminal case pending against the KCA and its officials,” the petitioners argued.Though an internal audit had found malpractice and misappropriation and recommended to register an FIR in 2007, no action was taken. The petitioners also submitted that a fraudulent deal was made in the purchase of land for the international cricket stadium at Edakochi. A huge amount was spent to appoint a UK-based architect despite knowing that the project would not materialise. The petitioner also argued that the KCA managing committee had committed serious accounting irregularities in conducting One-Day International matches and misappropriation of huge amounts to the tune of crores of rupees through the unauthorised sale of tickets. “The secretary is maintaining strong connections with all political parties by funding them exorbitantly from the fund received from the BCCI,” the petitioner stated. The petitioner also sought a directive to constitute a fresh managing committee of the KCA through election on the basis of the original bye-law. The committee amended the bye-law illegally, the petitioners said.
