THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All-India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) called for the rehabilitation of the Bengali girl who was gang-raped at Iritty in Kannur district the other day. In a joint press meet here on Wednesday, AIDWA state secretary K K Shylaja and DYFI state treasurer K S Sunil Kumar said that the incident  was disgrace to the state. They said that the 17-year-old girl, who lost her mental balance, required counselling and other treatment to bring her back to the normal state.  Commenting on the quick response of the police in arresting the four accused, they said that as the victims were poor labourers from West Bengal they urged the government to ensure their safety. The government should bear the entire treatment expense and provide them shelter. They said that they met the Chief Minister in this regard and it was the discretion of the Chief Minister to conduct the case in a fast track court.AIDWA Support to Nurses’ Strike  Shylaja said that they would continue to support the nurses’ agitation demanding implementation of the minimum wages and ending the harassment in the workplace. Asked why they did not respond to the agitation till it spilled over to the street, she said that the LDF Government had initiated steps in implementing the minimum wages. However, she said that they would continue fighting for the cause of the nurses.
