CHENNAI: Special police teams nabbed a notorious burglar and two of his accomplices, in the process seizing stolen gold jewellery worth lakhs of rupees at Velachery on Thursday.The special teams were probing two complaints of break-in and theft at houses in Saidapet and Velachery.On April 28, Arul Selvanayagam of CIT Nagar and manager at a private shipping company, found 75 sovereigns of gold jewellery stolen from his home and on May 29 Vignesh, a computer engineer of in Velachery reported that 19 sovereigns were stolen from his house.The police arrested gang leader Babu alias Neelankarai Babu and accomplice Vicky alias Victor.Woman Held A 46-year-old woman, whose modus operandi was to join a household as domestic maid and then decamp with valuables, was arrested at Thiruvanmiyur on Wednesday. The police seized 40 sovereigns of stolen gold jewellery worth `6 lakh from her.Police arrested Viji alias B Vijayalakshmi, of Ramanathapuram district, based on investigation on a complaint filed by Rama Ramamurthy, of Malaviya Avenue, alleging that her domestic maid Vijaya alias Jaya had decamped with 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery from her house on July 5. It seems she had been convicted thrice earlier for similar crimes.
