New Delhi: Border Security Force jawan Ramzan Parray was shot dead and four of his family members were injured in an attack by terrorists in Bandipore district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
According to sources, the 33-year-old had just returned home to Hajin town of Bandipore for a vacation a few days ago. He was dragged out of his home and shot dead, officials said, adding that it looks to be a targeted killing.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP, SP Vaid, told News18 that there were 3-4 terrorists who barged into the home of the BSF jawan. He said their attempt was to take Parray away, but they shot him multiple times at close range when he resisted. He died on the spot.
The terrorists also fired indiscriminately at the family, injuring the jawan’s father, two brothers and an aunt. The DGP said that the jawan’s father was with a faction of the Hurriyat and this could be a revenge attack.
Police said that the injured family members have been taken to a hospital. The condition of the jawan’s aunt was stated to be serious, while that of the three others was stable.
IG Police, Muneer Khan, said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the terrorists. The entire area has been cordoned off and is being searched, he said.
The modus operandi followed by terrorists in the killing of Parray is very similar to the one in the murder of Lt. Ummer Fayaz in May this year, suggesting a concerted plan of targeted killings. Just like Fayaz, Parray too was a local who had joined the security forces and had recently returned home.
The bullet-ridden body of Army Lieutenant, Ummer Fayaz, was found at Herman Chowk of Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district. The 24-year-old had gone to Shopian to attend the wedding function of a relative. He was abducted by terrorists from his home and shot dead.
