Seventeen-year-old Pravati Behera says her father took her reward of Rs 10,000 that was given to her two years ago and remarried.

Bhubaneshwar: Two years ago 17-year-old Pravati Behera from Orissa saved 10 boys when their boat capsized. But today, she is battling for her own survival.

"I saved so many lives but when it comes to me and my family's survival nobody is coming out to help us. I request the Government to help me and my siblings," Behera said.

Behera says that her father took her reward of Rs 10,000 that was given to her two years ago and remarried. Now she and her siblings have no source of income and have been abandoned by their father.

Behera was conferred the State Bravery Award on Saturday and was also given a cash prize of Rs 5,000 from the State Social Council.

"We will tell the Collector to take up the matter and take legal action against her father and at the same time make Behera self-dependant," Chairperson of Sustaining Communities for Child Welfare Sanjukta Mohanty said.

The Governor of Orissa who handed over the award was deeply shocked to know about the suffering of the girl. He has now ordered the Child Welfare Department to extend all possible help to Behera and her family.
