Mumbai: In a setback for Maharashtra Congress president and former chief minister Ashok Chavan, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday dismissed a an application filed by him for recall of an earlier order refusing to drop his name from the charge-sheet of Adarsh Housing Society scam.

Chavan had approached the Bombay High Court seeking recall of an earlier ruling by the HC. However, the High Court dismissed his application. Chavan will remain an accused in Adarsh case.

In November 2014, the Bombay High Court had rejected the plea of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to drop his name as an accused in the multi-crore Adarsh housing scam.

The CBI special court had earlier rejected the agency's plea to drop Chavan's name from prosecution.

The CBI contended that since the Governor had refused to grant sanction, and it has no material to prosecute Chavan, it should be allowed to discharge Chavan from the case.

Chavan had stepped down as the CM after the Adarsh scam came to light in 2010. He was the revenue minister when the state government approved allotment of 40 per cent flats.
