GURUVAYUR: The Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple authorities and the police were kept on their toes on Wednesday following the receipt of a letter threatening to bomb the temple. The letter, received by the Guruvayur Devaswom Administrator K Raghuraman in the morning, also warned of bombing a famous temple in Thiruvananthapuram and targeting political leaders, including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. The letter typed in English and signed by ‘Sawai Al Qaeda’ was posted from Chennai. It stated that bombs had been placed near the rear entrance (west nada) of the temple.The double locker room, where the gold and silver ornaments owned by the temple are kept, is situated on the southwest side of the entrance. The letter warned that a bomb blast will occur within a few days after the receipt of the letter.Thrissur Police Commissioner P Vijayan told Express that no suspicious objects were found from the temple premises which were thoroughly searched by the security personnel. A police team led by Guruvayur Assistant Commissioner of Police R K Jayaraj and Circle Inspector Sunil Kumar took charge of the temple security. The anti-sabotage squad and the bomb squad stationed at Guruvayur inspected the premises and armed police personnel have been deployed around the temple.Combing operations were conducted at various lodges and hotels in the town. High alert security will continue for a few more days under the direct supervision of the ACP of Guruvayur. Hi-tech security system will be installed at the temple soon, he said.
