An investigation into the Worli hit-and-run case revealed that the accused, Mihir Shah, who was behind the wheels of the BMW car that knocked down a couple, killing the woman and injuring the husband, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Mumbai police on Thursday said that Shah was “heavily drunk” and had consumed “12 pegs of whiskey”.
According to Mumbai police sources, the accused was “well aware” of something “trapped” beneath his car following the accident.
Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah’s son, 24-year-old Mihir Shah was allegedly driving the BMW car which fatally knocked down Kaveri Nakhwa and injured her husband Pradeep while the couple was on their two-wheeler in Mumbai’s Worli area on Sunday morning. Mihir, who was absconding since the accident, was arrested from Thane on Tuesday.
Kaveri Nakhwa’s husband Pradeep Nakhwa on Tuesday had accused Mihir of “intentionally” dragging her body and not stopping the car despite repeatedly shouting at him to do so.
Meanwhile, Mumbai police said that Mihir picked up 4 cans of beer from Malad Bangur Nagar and consumed a total of 12 pegs of alcohol on the night of the accident.
Police said he was on a “joyride” considering it was a Saturday night, referring to his drive from Juhu to Borivali to Marine drives and back.
Driver Rajrishi Bidawat Sent To Judicial Custody
Rajrishi Bidawat, the Shah family’s driver who was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly helping Mihir escape after the crash. He was presented before a court earlier in the day and was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Mihir Shah Remanded To Police Custody For Seven Days
Shah was produced before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Sewree court) S P Bhosale on Wednesday and was remanded in police custody for six days till July 16.
According to sources, the police demanded the custody of the accused to probe who helped him in destroying the evidence after committing the crime.
