BANGALORE: On a day when autorickshaw drivers reigned supreme, the BMTC incurred a loss of Rs 50 lakh as its buses were targeted by protesters. The BMTC buses were targeted on Wednesday midnight when some miscreants pelted stones at parked buses, forcing suspension of BMTC services till at 9 am on Thursday.However, with a near total bandh, the protesters continued to vent their anger on BMTC buses on all through Thursday.Three buses were set on fire early on Thursday morning at Roopena Agrahara and K R Puram before the service took off. Apart from this, 14 other buses damaged following pelting of stones while leaving depots at Jalahalli Cross, Dasarahalli, Jigani and Yelahanka.According to BMTC officials,  nearly Rs 50 lakh loss was reported and bus services remained suspended for most part of the morning, resuming only around 1.30 pm.State scenarioVarious services of the state-owned KSRTC and NWKRTC were also disrupted on Thursday.NWKRTC buses were damaged at Hubli Bus Stand in the morning and services were resumed only late in the afternoon in Hubli-Dharwad.  “Three buses were attacked at the Hubli Bus Stand in the morning. Services were back to normal from evening onwards,” said NWKRTC MD  Hemaraju.KSRTC also had to suspend services to some districts including Kolar, Ramanagaram, Chikkaballapur and other places.Figures of lossAccording to official figures, KSRTC operated only 3,321 of its daily average of 5,540 schedules which meant an operational capacity of only 60 percent for Thursday. This led to a revenue loss of around  Rs 3 crore.BMTC lost Rs 2.55 crore with an additional damage cost of Rs 50 lakh.
