BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar is now officially a sister city to Cupertino of California after Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Deputy Mayor Bharati Singh signed an MoU with Cupertino’s Mayor Gilbert Wong. Hailing this as a citizens’ initiative to develop a relationship, Suchitra Patnaik of Cupertino-Bhubaneswar Sister City Initiative explained the benefits the cities would derive from the project. This partnership would focus on developing education, healthcare, art and culture, commerce and create more business opportunities for both the cities. A proposal has been made to take Odissi and Gotipua dance forms to Cupertino next Diwali and popularise it. Founder of Cupertino Committee Mahesh Nihalani said, “We need to keep working toward achieving the goals set by both the cities with a positive approach.”Wong reaffirmed his commitment towards the partnership and said he was serious about moving ahead with the partnership and providing every possible help to Bhubaneswar. “This may seem ceremonial but I take this seriously,” said Wong.
