BHUBANESWAR: The BJP on Wednesday decentralised the selection of candidates for the three-tier panchayati raj elections. District presidents of the party have been entrusted with the job to select candidates and allot party ticket for zilla parishad election which is being fought on party symbols. Selection of candidates for panchayat samitis, sarpanches of gram panchayats and ward members will be done by a committee at the local level. The local selection committees will be constituted in consultation with the district presidents, the State executive committee of the BJP decided at an emergency meeting here. Clarifying that the BJP will have no truck with the BJD in coming elections, State BJP president Jual Oram said that his party would make the farmers’ suicide, supply of poor quality of seeds, distress sale of paddy, deteriorating law and order and the Government failure to tackle the Maoists election issues. Alleging that the ruling BJD will use money and muscle power in the panchayat elections, senior leader and former minister BB Harichandan told the meeting that the party cadres should be galvanised to fight the Government.
