New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday cancelled the nationwide yatras of party president Rajnath Singh and senior leader L K Advani following general secretary Pramod Mahajan’s death.
"The Bharat Suraksha Yatra (of Rajnath Singh) will not proceed from Amritsar. It has been cancelled," said Vijay Goel, BJP national secretary who was in charge of the yatra.
Advani too cancelled his yatra and will not proceed from Dausa in Rajasthan, party sources said. Both leaders were scheduled to reach Delhi on May 10. Singh began his yatra from Bhubaneswar on April 6 and Advani from Rajkot the same day.
The yatras were announced after the serial bomb blasts in Varanasi and were aimed at exposing the UPA Government's alleged failures and "minority appeasement policies".
