BANGALORE: In its efforts to compensate for the delay in acquiring land for the Peripheral Ring Road due to the state government's delayed approval of the proposed exgratia payment to those who will be losing land, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) is planning to start work on stretches that fall within government land.
BDA Commissioner Barath Lal Meena said, "We have managed to convince some farmers to give their lands for the project even before the exgratia payment is released. Therefore we have already started to mark that would be acquired for the road in the government lands and in the areas in which the land owners have agreed to part with their lands. This will help us to complete the project at the earliest. As soon as the state government approves the exgratia payments, we will pay them the money and acquire the remaining land for the project."Though the BDA had issued notifications to acquire 1,810 acres and 18.5 guntas of land in 67 villages of Bangalore Urban District between 2005 and 2007, the land owners prevented the BDA from acquiring this land, demanding more compensation, as the guidance value was revised after the preliminary notification.
