BANGALORE: While there are protests against Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP)'s projects to acquire more land from playgrounds, on the contrary, BBMP is now planning to allocate Rs 20 crore in the upcoming budget for developing playgrounds in the city.
Speaking to the reporters, Home and Bangalore Urban InCharge Minister R Ashok said there were 154 playgrounds and eight indoor stadiums that belong to BBMP. He added that children were moving towards video games as the city does not have many playgrounds. The civic agency is now endorsing an initiative 'Come back to playgrounds', to encourage children playing in playgrounds. Also, this will be a platform for trainers to train children in these playgrounds. Ashok further said that BBMP is earmarking a sum of Rs 20 crore for developing playgrounds and an honorarium of Rs 2,000 will be given to the trainers every month. "We are planning to appoint nodal officers from Sports Authority of India who will identify these trainers. Trainers have to register at BBMP," he said.
