BANGALORE: After presenting a budge of Rs. 9,000 crore, the fund-strapped Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is now exploring ways for mobilisation of additional resources. Speaking to reporters on Monday, on the sidelines of a review meeting held at BBMP office, Home and Bangalore Urban District In-charge Minister R Ashok said the meeting was convened to discuss the means of resource mobilisation. He said BBMP is geared up to bring details of every house under Geographic Information System (GIS). “We have already completed covering Mahadevapura zone under GIS. The Palike received additional Rs 41 crore through this,” he explained. According to him, at present, 11.5 lakh tax payers are paying tax. Another 3.5 lakh tax payers who are not paying the tax will be identified and included in GIS. The Palike will send notices and collect the taxes with penalty. A senior official will be deputed for the purpose. “A sum of Rs. 250 crore is expected to collected which will be done by December,” Ashok said.In Bangalore, there are more than 14 telephone service providers. Ashok said that the service providers have given false information by saying that they have put optical fibre cables (OFCs) for 5,000 km stretch. At present, the Palike is collecting Rs. 120 per meter of optical fibre cables, he noted.The Palike is purchasing an OTDR machine which is capable of telling the exact length of OFCs. “We are expecting to collect Rs. 700 crore from this. Survey will be completed by December and the illegal cables will be removed,” Ashok said.BBMP is expecting Rs. 1,500 crore from the State Government which was mentioned in this year’s budget.
