Sakhir: Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone believes that the Bahrain government were "stupid" to host this weekend's Grand Prix. Sunday's race at the Sakhir International Circuit is taking place amid a week of protests organised by opponents of the ruling royal family.
"The government here are, in a lot of ways, stupid to put this race on because it is a platform for people to use for protesting, Ecclestone, 82, said. Ecclestone said: "We're having a look at the calendar in general, because we have more races to fit in, so we'll see what we can do."
Some campaigners have called for the race in Bahrain to be cancelled because of the protest- but Ecclestone does not think that it's an issue for formula one. The Formula One boss also hinted that races could be held in other countries like Bahrain and Syria, where the situation is arguably worse.
"They probably haven't got a circuit there. We'd have to have a look and see. We don't go anywhere to judge how a country is run. It's a case of, whatever the laws are in a country, people need to respect them," Ecclestone added.
