Atwal makes good start in John Deere Classic
The Indian carded a creditable four-under 67 to be tied 19th after the opening round.

Silvis: Struggling for the past couple of weeks, Arjun Atwal rediscovered some lost form as he carded a creditable four-under 67 to be tied 19th after the opening round of the John Deere Classic golf tournament here.

Atwal, who missed the cut in the last two starts on the Tour, opened with three birdies in his first five holes, after starting from the 10th.

He birdied the 10th, 12th and 14th and then dropped his only bogey of the day on 17th.

A string of pars followed for the first six holes on the second stretch, before birdies on seventh and eighth saw him finish the day at four-under 67 on a day when his iron play was excellent.

A few more dropped putts could have seen him close to the leader Kris Banks, who shot an eight-under 63.

Banks birdied the final five holes of his round for a 63, a shot better than Canadian rookie Matt McQuillan, Steve Marino and Davis Love III.

What's your reaction?
