The post mortem report that the woman who died after being thrown out of a tempo taxi in Assam was not raped was rejected on Friday by the local BJP and a student body as public protests continued.
Demanding investigation by the CBI, leaders of the Lakhimpur district unit of BJP said "a copy of the report has not been made public, so how do we know what has been written there. A government doctor preparing the report will not go against government instructions.
"Even before the post mortem report was out the chief minister declared it was a mere accident. Investigations should be made into the circumstances leading to her death and the guilty be arrested and punished," they demanded at a dharna before the Deputy Commissioner's office.
The protesters also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation to the woman's family. According to the post mortem report, no rape was committed, but the woman suffered injuries on the head and near the eyes in the incident which occurred after she boarded the three-wheeler to pick up her six-year old daughter from school at Boginadi in Lakhimpur district on November 22.
The All Assam Students Union at a separate dharna before the Swahid Bhavan said even if it was an accident then the three wheeler, its driver and other occupants should have been identified and nabbed by now.
Alleging breakdown of law and order in the state, the student organisation demanded that the post mortem report be made public.
