KOCHI: The upcoming weekend will see a fascinating sarangi and sitar jugalbandi in the city. Brothers Murad Ali and Fateh Ali will be performing, in an effort to revive the waning popularity of these instruments. Both born into a musical family, they are sixth generation sarangi and sitar players. Their formative education came from their grandfather Ustad Siddique Ahmad Khan and father Ustad Ghulam Sabir Khan, and today both are leading young musicians of the day. Both took to music at a very young age, and over time have performed extensively and developed their distinctive styles. The other performance that Kochiites can look forward to this weekend is that of santoor maestro Pt Tarun Bhattacharya. The only performer of the Maihar Gharana, he breathed new life into the instrument and its style of play. He is considered one of the few musicians who appeals to both connoisseurs and casual listeners alike. Both events will be held at JT Pac. While brothers Murad and Fateh will be performing on May 26, Bhattacharya’s santoor performance will be on Sunday, May 27.
