Palampur: Indian Army has recovered the body of a soldier who was killed in the 1962 war with China. Army officials identified the body of the soldier as Karam Chand Katoch of Dogra Regiment.
Katoch's body was brought on Wednesday to his hometown of Palampur in Himachal Pradesh. The body was kept in the mortuary of the Army Hospital of Palampur and handed over to Katoch's family members on Thursday morning in Agojar village near Palampur.
Katoch is survived by his sister-in-law and nephew, Raju.'
He joined Indian Army in 1959 in 4th Dogra Regiment when he was 19. At the age of 22, he disappeared somewhere in the mountains of northeastern Arunachal Pradesh during the Sino-India war in 1962.
His body was recovered from a melting glacier in Arunachal Pradesh.
