HYDERABAD: Justice Vilas V Afzulpurkar of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday stayed the Central government order bringing the state under the purview of NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) for MBBS course. The order gave much relief to Class XII students interested in pursuing the medical course. The judge issued the stay order in a writ petition filed by special chief secretary for medical and health G Sudhir on behalf of the state government. In the petition, the government contended that introduction of NEET from 2012 would greatly harm the interests of AP students. Syllabus needs to be changed and students are to be prepared for the new curriculum.Switching to the new system in such a short period is very difficult for students, it said.It may be recalled that the Centre initially announced that there would be single common entrance exam to be conducted by CBSE for Class XII students to get admission into medical colleges across the country.
