Kuala Lumpur: Al Jazeera International, the new 24-hour English-language news and current affairs channel, has announced its full line-up of bureaux and correspondents worldwide ahead of its global launch later this year.
In addition to the four broadcast centres strategically located in Doha, Kuala Lumpur, London and Washington, it will have about 20 supporting bureaux gathering and producing news, giving unprecedented access to a single network.
For the Middle East region, they are located in Beirut, Jerusalem, Ramallah and Gaza and for the African continent in Cairo, Abidjan, Nairobi, Johannesburg and Harare.
For Asia and Australasia, they will be at Beijing, New Delhi, Islamabad, Manila, Sydney, Buenos Aires, Caracas and New York for America.
The bureaux in Athens and Moscow will cover Europe, it said in a statement issued by its Doha headquarters.
Managing Editor Omar Bec said together with the existing Arabic channel, it will have more than 60 bureaux worldwide, with the bulk in the Southern Hemisphere, ensuring a balanced information flow from South to North, thus being the reference channel for the Middle East and Africa.
"Al Jazeera International will share the resources of Al Jazeera Arabic language channel's 42 bureaux located around the world and is already planning to add further key bureaux to the mix. It will be announced as they open. We will be adding several bureaux to our newsgathering in the coming months. We are looking at opening bureaux in South America, Middle East and Africa," he said.
