Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday announced a new stadium and flyover for famine-hit Bundelkhand.
Akhilesh who is touring the region for a spot assessment of the situation said the state government is providing relief to farmers.
"The Central government has provided us funds for relief but that is not enough. It is both state and Centre's responsibility to take care of the drought situation in Bundelkhand," Yadav said.
Earlier, he had ordered all district magistrates to begin relief measures and to ensure that no hunger-related deaths take place in the region.
The chief minister gave them strict orders to ensure that no hunger-related deaths take place in Bundelkhand and that DMs would be held personally responsible for any such incident.
These slew of measures came after CNN-IBN exposed the plight of drought-hit Bundelkhand farmers in a series of hard-hitting reports.
The reports showed how due to consecutive years of scanty rainfall and hailstorms which destroyed crops lives of millions of people in the region were hit. People in many areas were surviving merely on roti and salt and lakhs were migrating to other regions to survive.
