Airport bid: Reliance back in the race
Airport bid: Reliance back in the race
Sources at the Civil Aviation Ministry say that the Sreedharan Committee has reviewed its report and evaluated all six bidders.

New Delhi: Airport modernisation could finally take off - if those closely involved in the process are to be believed.

The Anil Ambani backed Reliance Airport Developers is back in the race for airport modernisation.

CNN-IBN learnt that the E Sreedharan Expert Committee has reviewed it's report to include Reliance and DS Construction.

Sources at the Civil Aviation Ministry say that the E Sreedharan Expert Committee has reviewed its earlier report and evaluated all six bidders.

The group of bidders had asked for a review, as GMR Fraport was the only bidder left. A consortium can only bid for one airport, forcing either Mumbai or Delhi to be left out.

The rankings are the same. The GMR Fraport Consortium leads with top marks. However, sources say the qualifying criterion has been lowered to bring back Reliance Airport Developers and DS Constructions.

Reliance was pushed out in the panel's first report.

What's interesting is that in its first report, the Sreedharan panel had lowered the Reliance bid, bringing it below the 80 per cent benchmark to qualify.

Sources say the committee was in favour of a broader base and felt subjectivity was at stake with just one player.

Those in favour of the modernisation plan looked extremely confident of pushing through with the deal saying there will be a few bruised egos on January 24 when the committee meets but that the process is firmly on track.

What's your reaction?
