PUDUCHERRY: The AIADMK has demanded the removal of Superintendent of Police (South), the Returning Officer (RO) and sought deployment of para-military forces for the free and fair conduct of the by election in the Indira Nagar Assembly Constituency. In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, AIADMK Puducherry unit secretary A Anbazhagan said that although the instructions of the Election Commission are all in good faith, the implementation therof by the local officials especially by the police and the returning officer is far from satisfactory. The ruling party has bribed almost all the voters by distributing money and they have a grand plan to distribute another instalment on October 11 and 12 with attractive gifts.”“We are of the view that in the present circumstances, it would not be possible for the ECI to conduct the by-poll in a free and fair manner unless drastic steps are taken such as removal of SP (South) and RO,” Anbazhagan said in the letter. Charging that there were several model code violations after the announcement of elections, he said Chief minister N Rangasamy was campaigning for his party candidate throwing all norms of the EC into dustbin. The AIADMK leader alleged that government employees were actively campaigning for the ruling party and the video coverage had not been done in all cases of the campaign just to favour the ruling party, he added.Anbazhagan said the SP (South) was not taking action against the violations. “In fact, he is afraid of taking action against the ruling party people.” He also charged that the returning officer was not discharging his duties. The AIADMK leader said the District Election Officer remained a silent spectator and has not bothered about attending to the complaints lodged by the opposition parties.
