New Delhi: After the ‘Fitness Challenge’, Twitterati is up for another dare. This time it’s ‘Road Safety Challenge’ initiated by UP police chief.

UP DGP OP Singh has urged people to post videos and selfies on Twitter and share how they keep themselves and their loved ones safe on roads. He has also asked people to tag five others to accept the challenge.

Among the first ones to accept the challenge was Gautam Budh Nagar SSP Ajay Pal Sharma, who uploaded a video and asked his colleagues to make roads safer for Noida residents.

Noida is among the districts in Uttar Pradesh, which witnesses many lives being lost on roads, especially due to speeding.

According to police records, 965 accidents were recorded in Gautam Budh Nagar district from January till November last year, in which 394 people died and 819 people were seriously injured.

Besides Sharma, other residents and police officers also lauded DGP's move, and tagged others to challenge them for the dare.

The Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety had submitted a report to the apex court earlier this year, which showed that Uttar Pradesh recorded the maximum number of road fatalities for consecutively second year. While in 2016 19,320 people were killed on roads, in 2017, the number went up by 822 as 20,142 citizens died in accidents.

OP Singh’s tweet has become a hit among Twitterati with over 13,000 views of the video clip till Sunday morning and nearly 2,000 people have clicked ‘like’ on his tweet.

The DGP old The Times of India that the idea is to encourage people who abide by traffic rules and ensure their safety and that of their loved ones. Singh said he had also directed the police to upload videos of how people not adhering to safety norms on road are being checked, urged to follow the norms, and fined.

Earlier this week, Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore’s ‘Fitness Challenge’ became viral on social media, with popular names like Virat Kohli, Prime Minister Modi and Hrithik Roshan taking up the challenge.
