After CD, BJP puns on Pak in UP
After the CD row, the BJP has now made a pun on Hindi word Pak in its poll campaign to firm up its Hindutva vote bank.

New Delhi: After the BJP released a controversial twin-CD pack as part of its election campaign in UP, the party has now made a pun on Hindi word Pak in its poll campaign in Aligarh, which is a Muslim dominated region, to firm up its Hindutva vote bank.

"Kya inka irada pak hai?" (Are their intentions pure) is the catch line of the saffron party's ad blitz in dailies.

Seeking to find a stronghold in the state, the party is trying to cash in on the issues of Vande Mataram, Saraswati Vandana and capital punishment given to “terrorist Afzal” to drive home its point of “Islamisation of politics.”

The advertisement accuses the government led by Congress, BSP and SP of protecting separatist organisation like Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) and “shamelessly appeasing the minority.”

Reacting to its poll campaign and advertisement, BJP leader Kalyan Singh said, "There was nothing objectionable about it.”

"Whatever we have stated in the ad is the truth, there is nothing objectionable about it. It is a conspiracy by our political rivals to have us derecognised as a party," he added.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission on Wednesday postponed its hearing on the CD row in which the BJP has been accused of inciting sectarian passions against Muslims.

The Election Commission also made it clear that its full panel would hear the case despite the party's demand that Election Commissioner Naveen Chawla – who the BJP wants removed – should not be part of the hearing. The issue will be taken up Thursday.

The BJP had asked the poll panel not to allow Chawla to attend the hearing because there was a Supreme Court notice pending against him.

Party leaders had also said that Chawla would not be a neutral official in the case because of his supposed proximity with the Congress party.

However, the poll panel said Chawla would be present during the hearing.

Meanwhile, the BJP has disowned all responsibility for the CD. Party leaders have admitted that the CD was prepared as campaign material, but said they would have sought the poll panel's clearance before releasing it. But it got released inadvertently, they say.
