DAVANGERE: Davanagere police arrested an advocate on Friday night for planning a robbery in the city with a gang of robbers.
SP H S Venkatesh explained that a gang had looted the house of Mouneshwara at S S Extension A Block in the city on April 9. They covered the face of Mouneshwara's wife with a black mask and sedated her before making away with valuables worth Rs 3.90 lakh. The police arrested one Kalu who slipped the names of his accomplices Vinayak, Hanumanthu and Shivu. Vinayak and Hanumanthu were arrested and during their interrogation the police found out that an advocate, who had previously obtained bail for them in a few cases had provided them with vital information.

The two introduced Kalu to advocate Ananthjyothi who informed him that Mouneshwara had kept Rs 10 crore in his house, and lured Kalu with Rs 50 lakh as commission. He also gave them the blue print of the house and a customised map pinpointing the location of the house.

The SP said that after collecting information, the rural police arrested the advocate from Ganganakatte in Davangere taluk.
