Nalu Pennungal chosen as one of the 20 best films in the Belgian fest.

Thiruvananthapuram: Beligian Film Archives has chosen eminent film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan's latest work Nalu Pennungal, based on four stories of Jnanpith laureate Thakazhi Sivankara Pillai, as one of the 20 best films in the festival to be held in Brussels in July.

The film would compete for the prestigious L'Age d'Or (Golden Age) prize named after Luis Bunueul's mastperpiece in the 33rd edition of the festival, Adoor said here.

Adoor's Naalu Pennungal or Four Women premiered at the Masters Section of the Toronto Film Festival and was screened at the International Film Festival of India in Goa last year. The film is an adaptation of eminent writer Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai's work which revolves around the lives of four women from different stratas of society.

The selection to the global section of the festival is made "in view of the authenticity, peculiarity of purpose and novelty of treatment of the work," he said in a release.

The film featured in the event would be acquired by the Film Archives.
