Panangad was in sorrow on Thursday even as the news of 32-year-old Saji’s death spread in the village.
Saji, born deaf and dumb, died in a road accident on the Seaport Airport road after his motorbike collided with a private bus near Chittettukara on Wednesday. Saji, who was a painter, was returning from work at a house in Chittettukara.
Saji died on the spot, while Jibin, 35, who was with him escaped with minor injuries.
Hundreds of people including members of the Government High School for Deaf Ottapalam where he studied and the District Sports Council of Deaf Ernakulam, where he was a member, paid their last respects.
Saji is survived by wife Deepa who is hearing and visually impaired, daughter Krishnaveni and parents Manikyamangalam Sasidhara Menon and Vijayalakshmi.
The body was cremated on the house premises on Thursday.
The family is living at a rented house in Panangad.
