KOCHI: Magic has a way with the senses and thoughts. This is precisely why it is being used for an anti-liquor and anti-drug campaign for school students.  The Magic Academy in association with the Kochi Corporation, Excise Department and Youth Welfare Department is conducting an awareness campaign for students from Class IX to Class XII on the dangers of drug and liquor use. “Around 2000 students who have already been selected from each school will be divided into batches of 25 each. Around 100 students will be trained as resource persons who in turn will impart the skills to the rest of the students,” said  R Thyagarajan, education standing committee chairman, Kochi Corporation. The focus is on boys as they are easily lured into these deathly traps, he said.  The campaign will be held at the Town Hall from Nov 23-27. Magic classes will be held on four days from 9 am to 12 noon. The students will be divided into batches of 500. The classes are open to other students too, said Sreekumar, principal, Magic Academy, Kochi extension. Muthukad will be conducting classes in the morning and shows from 6.30 pm. The show and classes will revolve round the bane of drug and liquor use, he said.  “Though the class and shows are free of cost passes will be issued through the teachers who  coordinating the programme,” said Sreekumar. Passes will be issued from Nov 15.
