CHENNAI: Working as a senior account’s executive in a five-star hotel in the city, Venkateshwaran attributes his success to the lessons learned at the Ramakrishna Mission Boys Home. “I came to the home in 1971. Since then, this has been the place I always call home. My only family is here,” he says. He finished his schooling in 1975 and worked as an accounts manager in a firm for 25 years before joining work at the five-star hotel. On the occasion of the 107th Home Day, Venkateshwaran, along with many other former students, recalled the good old days they had spent at the home. Many former and current students and well-wishers of the home participated in this annual event, which is held on every second Sunday in February. “Every year, I come for Home Day. The memories I have of this place are dear to me. I spent even my holidays here,” says Venkateshwaran. The home provides free boarding and education for students from Class 6 to the polytechnic level. Campus placements are also held for the students here.
