KOCHI: Justice R Basanth’s court room witnessed dramatic incidents on Monday morning when a couple from Mullaperiyar approached the Kerala High Court seeking its intervention in settling the Mullaperiyar dispute.Amidst tears and sobs, the couple submitted that it was the court which let them marry, and it was the court which they can approach as a final solace. It was at around 10.30 am that the couple came to the open court. Requesting the judge to intervene in the issue, the couple said: “We are not able to live peacefully. The dam could break any moment. We got married after a lot of struggle. It was court which helped us unite. Due to continuous tremors, we are under constant fear that we may have to die here,” the couple said. The duo had married against the wishes of their families. After the families filed Habeas Corpus, they were produced before the court. The High Court, after finding that they were of legal age, had permitted their marriage. The couple requested that the court should act to prevent an emergency. Hearing the request, the judge asked them to approach the Kerala State Legal Services Authority. However, the two did not turn up at the KELSA office.
