New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Essa Memon, one of the convicted in 1993 Bombay blasts. He was given life imprisonment by the TADA court for being one of the main conspirators.
On September 12, the TADA court found four members of the Memon family, guilty of the 1993 bomb blasts in Mumbai that killed 257 people. They were the first to be convicted in one of the world's longest trials.
The series of 13 blasts were the deadliest bomb attacks in the country.
The four convicted — Yakub, Essa, Yusuf and Rubina Memon — were charged with criminal conspiracy in organising and carrying out the attacks.
The apex court has granted him bail, since he has already served 13 years in prison as an under trial, and his appeal against the conviction is still pending.
Meanwhile, the SC has also stayed the death sentence of Yakubb Memon, another key conspirator and brother of Tiger Memon.
