Mumbai: Actor Sanjay Dutt, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, will appeal that a probation officer prepares a report before a special court, which is to decide whether he should be released under the Probation of Offenders Act.
Dutt's laywer V R Manohar on Tuesday said he would request the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (TADA) court to appoint a probation officer.
The prosecution in the case has opposed Dutt's application. Dutt has been convicted under the Arms Act for illegal possession of a Ak-56 rifle and 9mm pistol and faces a jail term of five to 10 years.
He was, however, acquitted of conspiracy charges under the anti-terror law TADA and is currently free on bail.
The TADA court may announce the final date of sentencing of convicts in the 1993 serial blasts case on February 23, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said on Tuesday.
