The Hulimavu police arrested nine persons, who allegedly set a 11-yearold girl ablaze by pouring kerosene on her at Pinaganahalli.
The incident was reported around 9 am on August 18 when Kavitha, the victim, was on her way to school near Bannerghatta Road. The accused have been identified as Srinivas, 26, Harish, 32, Manjunath, 28, Babu, 24, Raghu, 21, Puttaraju, 26, Ramesh, 26, Hari, 25 and K Ramesh,21.
All residents of Pinaganahalli. Speaking to Express, DCP (South East) P S Harsha said that the victim’s cousin Harish was behind this brutal act and family dispute had led to the incident.
“Harish was an office bearer of various organisations in Hulimavu. He was nursing grudge against Venkatesh, the victim’s father, sfor a few years. Venkatesh had also registered a couple of complaints against Harish in Bannerghatta police station.
This had irked Harish and hence he hatched a plot to trouble his brother’s family,” the DCP said. “Harish contacted his friend Srinivas and hatched a plot to set the girl ablaze. After planning the attack for a week, the duo roped in the other accused.
They had also made several attempts to attack the girl, but they had failed to catch her alone. However, on Thursday morning they noticed the girl going to school along with her younger sister Kavya.
They surrounded her and set her ablaze, and fled the scene,” the DCP added. The accused have been sent to judicial custody. Girl Still Critical
Speaking to Express, Ramesh, the doctor treating the victim at Victoria Hospital, said she is not responding to treatment due to severe burn injuries. “She has sustained 90 per cent burns and she is under constant observation. ” he said. According to sources, DCM and Home Minister R Ashok took the incident very seriously.
“After knowing about the incident, he called senior police officers of the area and had pulled them up. Special teams were formed to crack the case and the accused were nabbed with in four hours after the incident.
