50 Young, Trained Terrorists Who Don't Need Local Support: Intel Sources On Pak's Strategy in Jammu | Exclusive
“The terrorists present now are young and highly radicalised. They are trained to survive without contact in the area and are capable of collecting information of their own instead of using On-Ground Workers (OGW),” said top intelligence sources

Jammu currently houses more than 50 trained, young foreign terrorists from Pakistan, who are responsible for the recent attacks in the region, according to top intelligence sources.

“Earlier, Jammu had only three old terrorists from Kishtwar. The number has gone up with the help of Pakistan Army. The terrorists present now are young and highly radicalised. They are trained to survive without contact in the area and are capable of collecting information of their own instead of using On-Ground Workers (OGW),” said sources.

While Kashmir has a flat terrain, making monitoring easy, in Poonch-Rajouri, the terrain is tough, with many high and lows, said sources. “The synergy response in Kashmir is excellent and it will take time to be replicated in Jammu.”

Now, the Jammu government is moving forces, which will be thin initially, said sources. “They are entering from the Hira Nagar side. Possibly, they have a tunnel, which makes it easy to enter. To radicalise more, they are making videos of ambush and attack. The aim is to increase the reach of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) on social or Jhelum media to make it a psychological war,” they said.

The biggest challenge will be the deployment of army, which will be diverted from China border.

An Army officer and three personnel, who were critically injured in a gunfight with terrorists in a forest area in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night, have succumbed to their injuries, according to sources.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday on the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing counter terrorist operation in Doda.

The Jammu region has recently seen a surge in terror incidents, particularly in border districts such as Poonch, Rajouri, Doda and Reasi. Attacks on an IAF convoy, a pilgrim bus and the recent killing of soldiers in Kathua highlight the evolving threat.
