Islamabad: At least 50 people, mostly women and children, were killed in Lahore on Monday when firecrackers exploded in a bus ferrying a group of people to a marriage.
The incident occured when the bus, which had more than 70 passengers on board, exploded in the northern cantonment area of the city, Geo News quoted local police officials as saying.
The explosion took place after the fireworks kept in the bus for marriage celebrations caught fire.
Geo News quoted police as saying that many of the victims were women and children who died from suffocation. The injured were rushed to the local hospital.
