RAJAHMUNDRY: An act of revenge has taken the lives of three people in Kodavali village of Gollaprolu mandal in East Godavari district on Saturday. Three persons died while five others fell seriously ill when they consumed toddy in which a toddy-tapper had mixed a chemical in order to teach them a lesson for stealing toddy from his pitchers.According to the police, the victims were stealing toddy from the pitchers owned by a toddy-tapper B Nageswara Rao. Noticing this, Nageswara Rao mixed a pesticide ‘monocrotophos’ in the toddy to teach them a lesson. The unsuspecting thieves consumed the toddy and fell ill. While B Venkata Ratnam (26), Ch Arjunudu (24) and Raja Babu (34) died in Government General Hospital (GGH) at Kakinada during treatment, the condition of Ch Nagabhushanam, B Pandu Babu, B Raja Babu, A Yesu Babu and K Yesu Babu is critical and they are undergoing treatment.Stamps and registrations minister Thota Narasimham, along with superintendent of police C Trivikrama Varma rushed to the village to inquire about the incident and expressed unhappiness over the attitude of the excise staff who failed to inform their higher authorities though the incident occurred early in the morning. Collector M Ravi Chandra and Pithapuram MLA Vanga Geetha visited the hospital and inquired about the health condition of the victims. Meanwhile a case was registered against Nageswara Rao under section 302 of IPC in Gollaprolu police station and arrested him.
