18 killed, 15 hurt in Pak suicide bomb attack

New Delhi: At least 18 people were killed and 15 injured in a suicide bombing in northwest Pakistan.

The suicide bomb attack took place at Dera Ismail Khan area of Northwest Pakistan. The North-west Frontier province, incidentally, is a Taliban stronghold.

When security personnel tried to search the bomber, a teenager, who was acting suspicious, the bomber blew himself up.

Area Superintendent of Police Khaled Mohammed said the bomber was in a bus which came to the town from Tank - a city in the troubled South Waziristan

tribal agency near Afghan border, and ran towards another passenger coach to escape the approaching security personnel who wanted to search him.

Police also entered the minibus following which the bomber exploded.

Area police chief Haji Habib-ur-Rehman said two police men and a paramilitary soldier were among the 18 people killed in the blast while 15 others injured.

He added that the bomber wanted to carry out the suicide attack elsewhere.
