17,000 policemen in B'lore for peaceful Eid
The number of people leaving the city went up marginally from Saturday. On Sunday, around 470 people left the city.

Bangalore: The city police have intensified their crackdown on persons targeting people from the northeast who are living in the city.

On Sunday, six persons were arrested by the Adugodi and Ashok Nagar police for allegedly threatening people from the northeastern states. With this, the total number of arrests since Thursday has gone up to 22.

The number of people leaving the city went up marginally from Saturday. On Sunday, around 470 people boarded the Mysore-Howrah Express from Yeshwantpur railway station. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were present at the station to maintain order.

Four general coaches were filled to capacity. Passengers with RAC tickets were accommodated in reserved second class sleeper coaches.

Meanwhile, Home Minister R Ashok on Sunday night visited several areas in the city and reviewed the security arrangements.

The Minister said about 17,000 policemen, including three companies each of CRPF and RAF, 25 KSRP and 35 CAR platoons, 1,500 trainee policemen and 500 home guards have been deployed.

They will provide security for Eid and protect the people from the northeastern states. He visited two mosques in Neelasandra and also the Tibetan Youth Hostel at fourth block, Koramangala. The Tibetan Home Minister-in-exile, Gyari Dagyal, was also present at the hostel during Ashok's visit.

At the mosques, Ashok met Muslim leaders and wished them on the eve of Eid. He said: "As long as you are with us, the city is quite safe. Bangalore will celebrate the festival peacefully on Monday."
