CHITRADURGA: The scene at the government higher primary school at GHT Nagar in the city is astonishing, to say the least, for in one classroom are crammed 30 students from class I to VII.
On Thursday, Express conducted a surprise check of the school where students were found sitting in various groups and being taught by different teachers. There was chaos and the voices echoing from one group to another made concentration impossible.
Deputy Director of Public Instruction H Manjunath told Express: "We don't need a middle school section here, sixth and seventh standard can be shifted to nearby schools but due to pressure from the government we are teaching those classes. We will try to shift them shortly."The school inaugurated in 2003 by then Housing Board chairman and present Chitradurga MLC GH Thippa Reddy, is 15X20 ft in dimension. It does not have basic amenities such as benches, toilet for students and teachers and play ground. It has a combined strength of 30 students with 7 students in the 1st standard; 5 in 2nd std; 3 in 3rd std; 6 in 4th std; 4 in 5th std; 1 in 6th std and 4 in 7th standard, all under the same roof. The school has four teachers. BT Tippe Swamy, an assistant teacher said it is inevitable for us to run the school in this building as we have no alternative.
